Retailers in the Gulf grow store by store, often across two or three countries. The systems rarely keep up: a POS in each store, stock in a spreadsheet, online orders keyed in by hand, and VAT returns assembled at the end of the quarter. Odoo replaces that patchwork with one system. Here is how it fits a multi-store retailer in the UAE and Saudi Arabia.
- One system for POS, stock, transfers, loyalty and online sales across every store.
- In-transit transfers and barcode scanning remove most stock mismatches.
- UAE and Saudi companies run in one database with VAT and ZATCA handled per country.
- Go live on a real stock count, and keep POS standard.
The problems we see most often
- Stock counts that never match between stores, warehouse and the system
- Store-to-store transfers with no record of what is in transit
- Daily sales reconciled by hand from separate POS terminals
- Online and marketplace orders that don't reduce store stock
- No live view of best-sellers, dead stock or margin by store
- VAT and ZATCA reporting built from spreadsheets
How Odoo handles multi-store retail
Point of sale in every store
Odoo POS runs in a browser or on a tablet, keeps selling if the internet drops, and syncs when it is back. Every sale updates central stock and accounting. Cashier sessions, cash counts and payment methods (cash, card, Tabby, Tamara) are reconciled per session.
Barcode inventory and transfers
Each store is a location. Transfers move stock from the warehouse to a store, or store to store, with an in-transit step so nothing disappears between dispatch and receipt. Barcode scanning on receipt and transfer removes most counting errors.
Variants, lots and serials
Fashion needs size and colour variants; jewellery needs serial numbers and weights; perfumes and cosmetics may need lot and expiry tracking. All are standard in Odoo.
Loyalty, gift cards and customer history
A customer recognised in one store is recognised in all of them, with points, gift cards and purchase history shared.
eCommerce and marketplaces
Odoo eCommerce, or connectors to Shopify, Salla, ZID and marketplaces, sell from the same stock. See integrating Odoo with your e-commerce store.
Multi-company, multi-country
A UAE company and a Saudi company (and often a Pakistan sourcing entity) run in one database, each with its own currency, chart of accounts and tax rules, with group reporting on top.

| Country | What Odoo needs to handle |
|---|---|
| UAE | 5% VAT, VAT return, and e-invoicing from 2027 for in-scope businesses |
| Saudi Arabia | 15% VAT and ZATCA Phase 2: cleared B2B invoices, reported simplified (POS) invoices, QR codes |
| Pakistan | Provincial and federal sales tax; FBR POS integration for notified retailers |
For Saudi stores, simplified invoices from POS must be reported to ZATCA; see ZATCA Phase 2.
A typical retail flow in Odoo
Purchase order to supplier → receive and label at the warehouse → transfer to stores (in transit) → sell in POS and online → automatic replenishment suggestions → daily dashboards by store, category and salesperson.
Where projects go wrong
- Skipping the opening stock count. Go live on a real count, not last year's spreadsheet.
- Over-customising POS. Standard Odoo covers most retail needs; custom code makes upgrades expensive.
- Undefined store list. Fix the number of stores, warehouses and companies in the scope.
Frequently asked questions
Can Odoo POS work offline?
Yes. Odoo POS continues to sell during an internet outage and synchronises sales when the connection returns.
Does Odoo support ZATCA for retail POS?
Yes. With the Saudi localisation, simplified invoices from POS can be reported to ZATCA with the required QR code.
Can we run UAE and Saudi stores in one Odoo database?
Yes. Each country runs as a separate company with its own currency, taxes and accounts, with consolidated reporting across the group.
How long does a retail Odoo implementation take?
For a few stores in one country, typically 6 to 10 weeks. Multi-country groups with eCommerce take longer and are usually phased.
