Odoo implementation questions
How long does an Odoo implementation take?
Six to eight weeks for a standard scope — requirements, design, configuration, data migration, training, UAT, go-live and hypercare. Multi-company, complex manufacturing or third-party integrations extend it. A proposal quoting four weeks for a manufacturer with three warehouses is excluding something.
What does it cost?
AED 8,000–18,000 for core financials, 18,000–40,000 for a trading business, 35,000–70,000 for manufacturing, and 60,000–150,000 for multi-entity. Fixed price against a documented scope. Licence and hosting are separate.
Community or Enterprise?
Both share the same core applications. Enterprise adds bank feed automation, Studio, dunning, quality management, field service and the upgrade service. For a fifteen-person trading company Community usually wins; for a forty-person manufacturer with high transaction volumes, Enterprise usually does.
Do we have to migrate all our history?
Usually not, and we would advise against it. Migrate master data and opening balances, keep the old system read-only for historical enquiry. It removes the most expensive and error-prone part of the project, and auditors are comfortable with it.
How much customisation will we need?
Roughly 95% of what we deliver is standard configuration. Custom code is a liability carried through every future upgrade, so we write it only where the standard system genuinely cannot meet a commercially important requirement.
What happens if the project goes wrong?
Payment is staged against milestones you sign off — 50% on signature, 30% on UAT acceptance, 20% on go-live. You do not pay the final tranche for a system you have not accepted. Scope is documented in a BRD before configuration starts.
