Questions about dashboards and reporting
Why do most dashboards get abandoned?
Because they were built to display data rather than support a decision. A dashboard survives when someone opens it before a specific recurring meeting and it changes what they do. We start from the decision, not the data.
Do we need a separate BI tool?
Usually not. Odoo's own reporting handles most requirements without another licence, another login and another system to reconcile. Where you genuinely need heavy cross-source analysis we will say so — but it is less often than vendors suggest.
Can our team build reports without a developer?
Yes, and we train for that specifically. If every report change requires a support ticket, reporting stops evolving with the business.
How current is the data?
Live. Dashboards built on Odoo query the same database the transactions sit in, so there is no synchronisation lag and no overnight batch to trust.
What should be on an executive dashboard?
Cash position, receivables ageing, margin by product or service line, and pipeline. Four things a director acts on. Adding twenty more metrics reliably makes a dashboard less useful, not more.
