Custom applications on the Oracle database you already run.
Low-code applications built with Oracle APEX — sitting directly on your existing data, with no separate platform to license or integrate.
For organisations already committed to Oracle
Oracle Applications cover core business processes thoroughly. What they do not cover are the specific, sometimes unusual processes that distinguish one organisation from another — and building those into the core product is neither practical nor wise.
Oracle APEX fills that gap. Low-code applications sitting on your existing Oracle database, using the data already there, without a separate integration to maintain.
Applications delivered on APEX
Hospital management
Patient records, admissions, scheduling, billing and pharmacy — built for the way a specific facility works rather than a generic template.
Dairy farm management
Herd records, yield tracking, feed management and veterinary history.
Poultry farm management
Flock cycles, feed conversion, mortality tracking and production forecasting.
Sales, service & spare parts
Warranty tracking, service scheduling, parts inventory and technician dispatch.
Day care management
Enrolment, attendance, staff ratios, parent communication and billing.
Point of sale
Retail transactions connected back to Oracle inventory and financials.
What makes it the right tool
It runs where your data already is
No separate database, no synchronisation layer, no integration to break. The application queries your Oracle data directly.
Development is fast
Low-code means working software in weeks rather than months, and changes in days rather than release cycles.
It is included
APEX ships with Oracle Database. If you are already licensed, the development platform costs nothing additional.
Security is inherited
Your existing Oracle security model, roles and audit apply. Nothing new to secure separately.
It scales properly
These are database applications, not scripts. They behave under load the way Oracle behaves under load.
When APEX is the wrong answer. If you are not already an Oracle organisation, adopting the database to get the development platform is backwards. And where a requirement is genuinely standard, an off-the-shelf product will beat anything custom. We will say so.
How engagements run
Typical scope
- Requirements and process mapping
- Data model design against your existing schema
- Application build with iterative review
- User acceptance testing
- Training and documented handover
What you get
- The application, running on your infrastructure
- Source and technical documentation
- A team trained to make small changes
- Support arrangement if you want one
- No lock-in — it is your database
Questions about Oracle APEX
Do we need an Oracle licence to use APEX?
APEX is included with Oracle Database at no additional cost. If you already run Oracle, the development platform is already paid for. If you do not, adopting Oracle purely to get APEX is the wrong way round — we would say so.
How does APEX compare to building a normal web application?
Faster to build and easier to maintain, because the application lives on the database rather than talking to it. No separate integration layer, no synchronisation, and your existing Oracle security model applies automatically.
Can APEX applications handle real transaction volume?
Yes. These are database applications, so they behave under load the way Oracle behaves under load. We have delivered systems handling hospital and manufacturing volumes.
What kinds of applications have you built?
Hospital management, dairy and poultry farm management, sales and spare parts systems, day care management, and point of sale — all connected back to Oracle inventory and financials.
Can APEX connect to Odoo?
Yes, through APIs on both sides. Some clients run Oracle for core finance and Odoo for operations, with defined integration points between them. Whether that is sensible depends on your situation — sometimes consolidating is the better answer.
Have a process Oracle Applications does not cover?
Thirty minutes to understand the requirement and whether APEX is the right way to meet it.
